Belgium - Serbia
August 20th 2007 22:06
Belgium will welcome Serbia in Euro 2008 qualifications in one match which don’t have big result importance for them. Belgium is laying on 5th place with 7 points out of 8 games and don’t have any chance to qualify for European championship. They play very poor this qualifications wining only against Armenia and Azerbeijan , two weakest sides in the qualification group A. Beside that, they drew with Kazakhstan at home ,lose both matches against Portugal , one against Finland and Serbia. In that match in Serbia , Belgium showed mediocrity performances and they could lose more than simple 1:0.
Belgium will be without defender Van Damme and midfielder Clement who are injured.
Goalkeepers: Stijn Stijnen (Club Bruges), Logan Bailly (Racing Genk), Olivier Renard (Standard Liege)
Defenders: Carl Hoefkens (WBA), Nicolas Lombaerts (FC Zenith), Daniel Van Buyten (Bayern Munich), Thomas Vermaelen (Ajax), Vincent Kompany (Hamburg), Anthony Vanden Borre (Fiorentina), Mark De Man (Anderlecht)
Midfielders: Karel Geraerts (Club Bruges), Timmy Simons (PSV Eindhoven), Gaby Mudingayi (Lazio), Steven Dufour (Standard Liege), Maarten Martens (AZ Alkmaar)
Forwards: Mbo Mpenza (Anderlecht), Francois Sterchele (Club Bruges), Moussa Dembele (AZ Alkmaar), Kevin Mirallas (Lille)
The other side, Serbia is strongly motivated to win this encounter. They are laying on second place in group A with 14 points out of 7 matches. First Poland have 19 points , but also 2 matches more than Serbia, so this is a chance for Serbian national selection to cut the difference. Portugal is on 3rd place with same points like Serbia and have easy match against Armenia. This is motivation more for Serbian players to take all 3 points today. Serbia will be without best striker Nikola Zigic and playmaker Dejan Stankovic , but I believe they could compensate that because there are lot of good players in squad like striker Danko Lazovic from PSV or midfielder Bosko Jankovic who gives excellent performances in his new team Palermo.
Goalkeepers: Vladimir Stojkovic(Sporting Lisbon), Vlada Avramov(Fiorentina)
Defenders: Antonio Rukavina(Partizan Belgrade), Ivica Dragutinovic(FC Sevilla), Mladen Krstajic(Schalke 04), Dusko Tosic(Werder Bremen), Nemanja Vidic(Manchester United), Milan Stepanov(FC Porto)
Midfielders: Nenad Kovacevic(RC Lens), Igor Duljaj(Shakhtar Donetsk), Milan Smiljanic(Espanyol), Ognjen Koroman(Red Star Belgrade), Bosko Jankovic(Palermo), Zdravko Kuzmanovic(Fiorentina), Milos Krasic(CSKA Moscow)
Forwards: Marko Pantelic(Hertha BSC), Milan Jovanovic(Standard Liege), Danko Lazovic(PSV Eindhoven).
I suppose it will be one tight game without lot of goals because both squads have excellent defenses. However, Serbia have better options in other parts of the field and much more motives to win, so I believe it will give the edge for Serbia.
My pick is Serbia AH 0 LOST ( 1.90 @ vcbet) and braver should try clear away win.
