Bet Shrink - by Craig Hill

The grass court season hasn't quite run its course and there is a great deal of value to be found at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Championships, says Sean Calvert.

Wimbledon is over for another year, but it's not quite the end of the grass court swing, as the tour heads to Newport, Rhode Island for the Campbell's Hall of Fame Championships.

If anyone is able to endure another week of lawn tennis in supposedly its purest form - and I'm not sure that I can after the tedium and depressing predictability of that final Wimbledon set between Federer and Roddick - there is a great deal of value to be had in Newport.

Of course there is always value to be had at the Hall of Fame Championships, as this event is famous for its 'Casino Curse' whereby no top seed has ever won the event in it's 33 year history.

Mardy Fish has been top seed here for the past two years and the American again takes the poisoned chalice in 2009, where he is the [3.0] market leader.

Putting the 'Casino Curse' to one side for a moment and concentrating purely on the form, Fish is clearly lay material here.

His record in the event is a poor 7-7 and he has been beaten at this event by the likes of Rohan Bophanna; Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi; Dusan Vemic and Michael Llodra (twice).

Hardly a glittering array of tennis talent in that list and although it looks like Fish has an easy draw, the aforementioned that have defeated Fish here indicates otherwise.

And the curse has afflicted better players than Fish here over the years too. Our own Andy Murray was the number one seed here in 2006 before succumbing to the mighty Justin Gimelstob in the semi-finals, so you have to respect the curse.

Fish's impending defeat gives others at much bigger prices a great chance and I like the claims of a real long shot in that top half of the draw in Canadian-born American Jesse Levine.

I was courtside for what was probably Marat Safin's final match on the Wimbledon lawns a couple of weeks ago and that was a defeat to Levine, who was impressive at SW19.

The diminutive leftie doesn't have any real weapons of note, but he has a solid all round game and he was too consistent for Safin, who as usual imploded in the end, but that's not to take anything away from Levine, who won five matches on Wimbledon's grass this year including qualifying.

He finally lost in four sets to Stanislas Wawrinka, who gave Murray such a great game one round later and anything like a repeat of those consistent displays would be good enough to go far here at the nice price of around [67.0].

Elsewhere in the top half of the draw there are several notable grass court exponents seeking to take advantage of any Fish slip up.

Amongst the most likely are Benjamin Becker [10.0], Frank Dancevic [26.0], Chris Guccione (81.0] and Robby Ginepri [26.0]. Becker would be the obvious choice as the danger man in the top half given his current fine run of form.

The German spent the spring hoovering up challenger events before graduating back to tour level where he claimed the title on grass in S'Hertogenbosch, the form of which gives the 28-year-old a very good chance here in Newport.

The bottom half of the draw contains defending champion Fabrice Santoro; former finalists Nicolas Mahut [13.0] and Vinny Spadea [51.0]; 2002 winner Taylor Dent [26.0]; and big hitters Sam Querrey [5.5] and Amer Delic [51.0].

French veterans Sebastian Grosjean [51.0] and Arnaud Clement [34.0] have also been given wild cards into the bottom half of the draw and are both former Wimbledon quarter-finalists.

Talking of French veterans, I was courtside for perhaps Santoro's last Wimbledon victory a couple of weeks ago and a fine win it was too over Nicolas Kiefer in straight sets.

'The Magician' also reached the semi-finals at Eastbourne and is still fit enough and hungry enough to claim a record third successive Newport title at the age of 36.

Santoro will play perhaps his nearest modern equivalent in terms of playing style in Flavio Cipolla in the first round and unless Dent is firing on all cylinders, The Magician has little to fear from his early round opponents.

He could meet Querrey in the semi-finals and as the pair have never met before it would be an interesting match-up, which surely would frustrate Querrey into defeat.

The world number 34 has never lost at Newport and it would be a fitting way for Santoro to end a hugely entertaining career if he could reclaim the title here, so at odds of [8.0] he is surely the choice for a wide open Hall of Fame Championships 2009.

Fleishman - Nishikori

September 30th 2007 22:57
American Zack Fleishman is less than average player. With his 27 years and 7 years of professional career he didn't win any title and currently he is on 141st place of ATP list. His achievements this season are not any better. He has best performances on hard surface , but even on hard he is rarely on second round of tournaments. So, definitely player in the sea of many players.

Nishikori from junior days

His opponent Kei Nishikori is currently on 251st place of ATP list , but he is a still teenager with his 17 years and this is his first season on pro tour. In previous matches he has fluctuating success but he already won over few players from top 100 , like Teimuraz Gabashvili or Michael Berrer. So, definitely player who has time on his side. Nishikori's favorite surface is also hard so he will put his best in this match. His disadvantage could be inexperience , but I believe it will be redeemed by home crowd support. It is his first time to play on some major event in Japan so it would be an extra motivation.

I will go for younger and perspective guy here. Kei Nishikori to win , 1.83 @ sportingbet. Good Luck !!!

Verdasco - Dancevic

September 27th 2007 00:48
Fernando Verdasco won easily over David Martin in first round 6:2, 6:1. Like Kunitsyn he had luck in draw as his original opponent Joachim Johansson pulled out from tournament. Some month and half ago Verdasco played only match with Dancevic and lost 2:1 , but match was played on Dancevic's soil in Canada . Verdasco knows how to play against big servers and that could be his advantage today. Frank Dancevic eliminated Del Potro in first round after third set tie-breaker.

Dancevic is in good form lately and his main weapon is a serve , but like I already said Spaniard has a "cure" for big servers. However, I believe it will be a tight match and winner will probably be decided in third set and in my opinion Verdasco has slightly better chances to win this one I think this is a great chance for Verdasco to win and tie series with Dancevic. My pick is Verdasco to win ( 1.80 @ Pinnacle) .

Igor Kunitsyn - Dominik Meffert

September 27th 2007 00:45
Kunitsyn ( ATP 81 ) had luck in a first round as his supposed opponent Djokovic retired from the tournament. Russian showed strong performances against George Bastl instead. Kunitsyn dominated from the beginning of the match and the winner was not questionable at all. Igor Kunitsyn didn't make some great achievements lately but he was unlucky in draws as at US Open he met Carlos Moya in second round and in China Tommy Robredo in quarters. But it looks he has much more draw luck in Bangkok so it could be his chance to make something more as Meffert is not some classy player.

His opponent, Dominik Meffert ( ATP 228 ) eliminated Delic( who underestimated Meffert in my opinion ) in first round , but serve and volley served him too good and I don't believe he could repeat such good performance against Russian guy. Maybe this bet could be taken in straight sets for Kunitsyn , but I will go for simple Kunitsyn to win. 1.61 @ Pinnacle.

Zimonjic/Djokovic Vs. Hanley/Hewitt

September 22nd 2007 00:16
After day 1 result in Davis Cup match between Serbia and Australia is tied. Djokovic won his match against Luczak while Tipsarevic failed against former No1 Hewitt, although he had lead 2:1 in sets. It was my real pleasure to watch live tennis in Belgrade Arena yesterday. Today is very important match for both teams as win means there are just one more match for triumph.

Davenport - Jankovic

September 13th 2007 22:03
Davenport is back in tennis world after almost one year pause. Lindsay Davenport made two pretty comfortable wins in Indonesia. In first round she eliminated Eleni Danilidou 6:2 6:2 and in second Julie Ditty 6:1 6:4. She perform pretty well, but still Danilidou and Ditty are not her class. Match against Jelena Jankovic will be her real test.

Djokovic - Federer

September 9th 2007 10:41
Probably the best two players in the world will meet in this final. Djokovic had pretty tough draw for this season US Open, but after elimination of Hewitt and Nadal things got much easier for Serbian player. Novak showed big mentally strenght from the beginning of the tournament when he won against Stepanek after almost 5 hours of play. After that match everything was just fine for him and he deservedly make appearance in his first GS Final.

Like many times before , Federer made easy walk thru tournament. His appearance in the final was not under question mark in any match played so far in New York. Maybe the most uncertain outcome was against Davydenko in semis , but at the end champ won it in three sets

Djokovic to win US OPEN

September 7th 2007 23:05
Well, tournament is in semifinal stage and there are only two matches left for future champion of US Open.

In the first semifinal Djokovic will meet with Ferrer. Probably it wouldn't be an easy match for Djokovic as Ferrer has decent performances lately, but at the end Novak's quality should prevail. This is third straight GS semifinal for Djokovic and it's time to finally take his chances in final

Djokovic - Ferrer

September 7th 2007 20:15
Surprisingly , Head to head stats are on Ferrer side as he lead series 2:1. But both Ferrer wins were on clay while Djokovic won only match played on hard , this year in Indian Wells. At U.S Open Djokovic started with win against "lucky loser" Haase 3:0 but in second round he played against Stepanek who made serious problems to Serbian player , however Djokovic won that 5 sets marathon. After Stepanek , Djokovic was more confident and IMO he play better from one match to another. The other victims were Del Potro, Monaco and Moya. Djokovic is almost perfect player in his 20 years of age. He serve pretty well, has great baseline play and shows aggression during matches. It's really hard to play against him as he likes to control whole match.

Wawrinka - Chela

September 4th 2007 00:45
Stanislas Wawrinka shows very good performances at U.S Open this year. He won over Korolev 3:2, Marat Safin 3:0 and Robby Ginepri in another tennis marathon. This is the biggest achievement for him at Grand Slams, so far, as he never reached 4th round of competition. Wawrinka advantage is certainly big serve and in previous matches he lost his serve only in three occasions. Wawrinka also has good base line play as well as his opponent today so I expect lot of very long points on this match.

It looks Davydenko left behind him betting scandal and at U.S Open perform some really great tennis. He won over Jesse Levine, Nicolas Kiefer and Nicolas Almagro all in straight sets. Hard surface suits Davydenko's style of play, mainly because he has big serve and great physical strenght.

Kohlschreiber - Moya

September 2nd 2007 14:51
Philip Kohlschreiber made big surprise beating Youzhny in second round , but I've watched this match I in my opinion Youzhny eliminated himself with numerous mistakes. In the first round Kohlschreiber won over Zabaleta easily in straight sets. Kohlschreiber showed some good performances on the net in previous rounds, but German player isn't Moya class . Few weeks ago he lost against players like Monaco, Del Potro or Hrbaty which are all weaker than Spaniard.

A. Ivanovic - V. Williams

September 2nd 2007 11:18
Both players perform excellent at this season U.S Open and IMO it's shame they meet in so early stage of the competition. Venus didn't have hard job in first three rounds against Kira Nagy, Olaru and Alyona Bondarenko. She didn't drop a set yet allowing only 12 games to her opponents in three rounds. However, those players wasn't real test for Venus and today we'll see is she capable for highest place this year in America.

Ginepri - Wawrinka

September 2nd 2007 10:42
Robby Ginepri didn't have hard task in first two rounds beating Olivier Rochus and Teimuraz Gabashvili both in straight sets. He play good at hard surface and he is domestic player in U.S. and that could be small advantage for him. However, he is not unbeatable at hard and players like Murray , Calleri or even Michael Berrer won against him in previous month.

September 1st 2007 11:51
The most pleasant surprise this year at US Open woman competition is certainly Hungarian youngster Agnes Szavay. She reached the final in New Heaven one week ago and there she won against strong players like Stosur or Hantuchova. At US Open she easily eliminated Sandra Kloesel i nthe first round and somewhat harder Michaela Krajicek in second.

Horna - Almagro

August 29th 2007 23:33
In my opinion odds are too high for Almagro win. Luis Horna is a typical clay courter and I think he has very poor chances to play in 3rd round. He played 5 times at U.S Open and just once he managed to play in second round of this tournament. He has very poor results on Americas hard courts this season beating only Koubek and in first round of US Open Peter Luczak, with lot of problems in both matches.

Rochus - Ginepri

August 29th 2007 00:51
Both Ginepri and Rochus used to be on much higher level than currently and nowdays they are just average players. Rochus has really disappointing season and he don't perform anything better at U.S. hard courts too. In Cincinnati he went thru qualifications over Fleishman and Garcia Lopez but lost in first round against Ferrero. In New Heaven he was trashed by Acasuso , also in the first round. So, it looks he is far from good form and in my opinion he must wait for another season to make something better.

Justin Henin - Jelena Jankovic

August 19th 2007 11:57
Expected final at Rogers Cup this year. 1st on the WTA list Justin Henin will play against 3rd Jelena Jankovic, but in my opinion at the moment those are two best players in the world.

Henin comes to final without set dropped. She won over Andreja Klepac, Peng, Petrova and this year surprise Zi Yan. Se didn’t has any problems except against Petrova when Justin was close to lose first set. Although she have good results on the paper Henin is far from her best form and Jankovic could maybe take advantage of it. So far, Justin Henin won all six encounters but except the last one at Roland Garros she always dropped one set to Jelena Jankovic

James Blake - Sam Querrey

August 17th 2007 21:48
This will be great match in Cincinnati because both players are from the States. James Blake is much more experienced than 12 years younger Querrey and that certainly makes him favorite today *tonight*. Blake came into the tournament with an injury but it seems it doesn’t have great impact on his form. He plays in great style in Cincy this year and so far he lost just one game on his serve. In the last match he dismissed Ferrero pretty easy.

Yeah, Bjorkman and Mirnyi are big favorites to win this match. They were champions of this tournament and that is a fact for respect. They play together for a long time and perfectly good know each other. So from that point of view they have much much better chances to win this match. But I expect some trouble from Serbian double today.

He took first set without much problems but in second Safin showed his real face. However, that wasn’t enough for in form German and he finished that match in tiebreak. However, he took part in the last tournament in Montreal and won against Canadian player Niemeyer and lost against in shape Frenchman Mathieu. Earlier this season he played against Haas and lost that match 3:1 . Ancic is good player , maybe bit out of form but certainly he could make some trouble for Tommy Haas.

Roger Federer - Novak Djokovic

August 12th 2007 13:13
Federer - Djokovic

This is expected final for me. Those two players showed most during whole tournament and both didn’t lose a single set. Federer had most problems in the first round against giant player and server Ivo Karlovic winning after two tie-breaks. In the rest of the tournament he won over Fognini, Hewitt and in semis over Stepanek. The other side, Djokovic had very taugh oposition in Kiefer, Nalbandian , Roddick and Nadal but he finished all matches without lot of problems. Yesterday he overrun Nadal dominating all the time. H2H Federer leads 4:0 , but this season in Dubai , Novak took first set against tennis king Roger. From that time Djokovic improved greatly in all parts of the game. His serve is almost unbreakable with big percent of successfull first serve, backhand is great , foot work one of the best in whole ATP tour. Djokovic also improved his volley and play from the base line. Djokovic is not simply good he is outrageously good in Montreal and in my opinion he is very underestimated by bookies. About Federer I don’t want to write much because we all know how good he is

ATP Tennis 28.07.2007.

July 28th 2007 12:57
Nishikori – Tursunov

Nishikori (17) is the youngest quarterfinalist at the Indianapolis since Becker in 1985. He played good on this tournament beating easily A.Falla in two sets and in last round recently in form M. Berrer in three. He showed good tennis and evidently he has great motivation to make best possible result in one of the first ATP tournaments for him. He will play without pressure because he is underdog here and that could be a slight advantage for him. Also, like most Japanese players he play excellent on hard surfaces while Tursunov is much better on grass. Tursunov won in first round against Russel and in second had problems with Gabashvili , wining 2:1 in sets , but losing second 0:6. Lately it’s typical for Tursunov to have drop downs in form during matches and that also could be a chance for youngster Japanese player. If Nishikori continue to play on high level like in first two rounds I believe he will be able to take at least one set against Tursunov. With bit of luck he could even win but it could be taken with small stakes only. My pick is Nishikori with sets HC 1.5. (2.5 @ interwetten

Djokovic - Youzhny

February 24th 2007 11:11

At previous tournament Youzhny have won in first round against Serbian player. Today is a good chance for Djokovic to pay back for that. Djokovic won against Robredo. He lost first set , but then he won another two . It's not unusual for Djokovic lately and it seems he need some time to accommodate in match. But today he must be better than that because Youzhny is in good form. Head-to-Head stats are 1:1. Those are very equal opponents at the moment and small differences will decide match today. So, in this 50/50 match I will go for Djokovic because I think he is ready to have another final this season. He won his first title in Netherlands (Amersfoort) last year and it might be good sign today too. Djokovic to win.

Djokovic - Robredo

February 23rd 2007 00:32

Very interesting match in Rotterdam today. It will be very close match in my opinion because both players are well accustomed to hard surface. However, I want to give advantage to Novak Djokovic. He showed good performances lately , in this tournament too, he is good prepared and when he play in best posible condition he can beat any player except Federer of course. He had small problems in previous match against Pavel as he struggled in first set , but after that set he took match more serious and easily finished it with win. Robredo won yesterday against de Voest but taht wasn't really hard task for him . I expect much more problems against Djokovic , problems which will lead to Robredo's elimination. Djokovic to win.

But Davydenko play on high level for a long time , he eliminated Muller, Roitman , solid Santoro and excellent Berdych , the last one pretty easy which talk a lot about Davydenko's current strenght.

Gonzalez looks impressive so far , but tonight he will has the moment of the truth. Gonzalez took Blake and made big surprise few days ago but in match against Nadal he must play better if he wants to win. Nadal play on good level, so far not best from him , but evidently he use experience to overcome hard situations in matches. Murray had a chance against him , but Rafa was best in the most vital moments . I expect similar tonight too. Gonzalez will attack , he will has some chances , but at the end I expect Nadal in the next round. H2H Gonzalez leads 2:1 , but those two wins were long time ago . Tonight is good chance for Rafa to equalize score. Nadal to win

This is not the firs tournament for this double as they have played some matches together last year too. So, players are accustomed to each other.
