Bet Shrink - August 2007

Horna - Almagro

August 29th 2007 23:33
In my opinion odds are too high for Almagro win. Luis Horna is a typical clay courter and I think he has very poor chances to play in 3rd round. He played 5 times at U.S Open and just once he managed to play in second round of this tournament. He has very poor results on Americas hard courts this season beating only Koubek and in first round of US Open Peter Luczak, with lot of problems in both matches.

The other side, Almagro performed pretty good at previous tournaments beating players like Nieminen, Ljubicic or Mayer and losing against Federer 2:1 in sets. In first round of US Open he won easy against solid Alex Kuznetsov in straight sets. Although Almagro's favorite surface is also clay it's evidently he could put strong challenge on hard surface too. H2H Almagro leads 1:0 , this season at Bastad clay he won in straight sets.

Almagro should finish this match in 3 or 4 sets. My pick is Almagro to win 1.40 @ Ladbrookes. WON

I've played this match in single and also in combo together with Djokovic. GL to all...

Horna - Almagro 0:3

Rochus - Ginepri

August 29th 2007 00:51
Both Ginepri and Rochus used to be on much higher level than currently and nowdays they are just average players. Rochus has really disappointing season and he don't perform anything better at U.S. hard courts too. In Cincinnati he went thru qualifications over Fleishman and Garcia Lopez but lost in first round against Ferrero. In New Heaven he was trashed by Acasuso , also in the first round. So, it looks he is far from good form and in my opinion he must wait for another season to make something better.

Ginepri started this season pretty slow but in Cinci and New Heaven he managed 2nd rounds , beating Bjorkman and Masu and losing to Caleri and Davidenko both with 1:2. In my opinion he is in slightly better form and also he has home crowd beside him , so I think he should has an edge over Belgian player.

My pick is Ginepri to win, 1.66 @ Pinnacle. WON

Lyon - St.Etienne

August 26th 2007 01:47
Current champions and current No 14 in French 1st league Lyon have very important match this weekend against all time rivals St. Etienne. Lyon won just one match this season and this is very poor result for team with title ambitions. In last two rounds Toulouse and Lorient were better than Lyon and I believe they are greatly motivated to back on winning ways. It will be somewhat easier for them as Kim Kallstrom is back in squad after suspension but Govou is still injured.

St.Etienne is at slightly better position with 5 points but also with one match more than Lyon. They also have only one win this season but with current performances they couldn’t expect more. In last two rounds they lost against Rennes 1:0 and drew at home with Bordeaux last week. For visitors Geoffrey Dernis is still injured.

Sooner or later Lyon must change this difficult situation. I vote for as soon as possible and my advice is Lyon to win , but my pick is bit riskier Lyon AH -1 (2.05 @ Pinnacle). VOID

Lyon won 1:0

Turkey - Serbia

August 25th 2007 13:32
Second semifinal at Efes Cup in Turkey will be full of adrenaline as domestic national selection have very hard opponent in Serbia. Turkey is a good team composed mostly of players from domestic and Spain league , but there are few players from NBA too , like Okur from Utah or Turkoglu from Orlando. Turkey coach Bogdan Tanjevic is also very experienced but it seems he is not able to pull maximum from Turkish team. Turkey won first match in tournament against not so good Latvia 74:68 and in second they’ve lost to Croatia 60:70. Today Turkey certainly have advantage of home ground and ‘crazy’ Turkish fans but I’m not sure it will be enough against highflying Serbia.

Serbia have rejuvenated team leading by Moka Slavnic. Serbia won both group games against mediocrity China 96:76 and Poland 100:68. Although those two teams are not planet best Serbia showed excellent performances with unstoppable offensive play and maybe not so good defense. However, I expect much active defense against Turkey. Serbia is very strong at position 5 with excellent Darko Milicic , but there are also solid Marko Jaric and great shooter Milan Gurovic. From younger players I want to point out Serbian playmaker Teodosic who has great potential and in my opinion he is the best play in Serbia after Sasa Djordjevic retirement. There are few stars in Serbian national selection but complete tactics is subordinate to team and in my opinion that fact together with excellent offensive performances and slightly better defense should be a key for final.

My pick is Serbia to win ( 1.85 @ bwin). LOST

Belgium - Serbia

August 20th 2007 22:06
Belgium will welcome Serbia in Euro 2008 qualifications in one match which don’t have big result importance for them. Belgium is laying on 5th place with 7 points out of 8 games and don’t have any chance to qualify for European championship. They play very poor this qualifications wining only against Armenia and Azerbeijan , two weakest sides in the qualification group A. Beside that, they drew with Kazakhstan at home ,lose both matches against Portugal , one against Finland and Serbia. In that match in Serbia , Belgium showed mediocrity performances and they could lose more than simple 1:0.
Belgium will be without defender Van Damme and midfielder Clement who are injured.

Goalkeepers: Stijn Stijnen (Club Bruges), Logan Bailly (Racing Genk), Olivier Renard (Standard Liege)

Defenders: Carl Hoefkens (WBA), Nicolas Lombaerts (FC Zenith), Daniel Van Buyten (Bayern Munich), Thomas Vermaelen (Ajax), Vincent Kompany (Hamburg), Anthony Vanden Borre (Fiorentina), Mark De Man (Anderlecht)

Midfielders:
Karel Geraerts (Club Bruges), Timmy Simons (PSV Eindhoven), Gaby Mudingayi (Lazio), Steven Dufour (Standard Liege), Maarten Martens (AZ Alkmaar)

Forwards: Mbo Mpenza (Anderlecht), Francois Sterchele (Club Bruges), Moussa Dembele (AZ Alkmaar), Kevin Mirallas (Lille)

The other side, Serbia is strongly motivated to win this encounter. They are laying on second place in group A with 14 points out of 7 matches. First Poland have 19 points , but also 2 matches more than Serbia, so this is a chance for Serbian national selection to cut the difference. Portugal is on 3rd place with same points like Serbia and have easy match against Armenia. This is motivation more for Serbian players to take all 3 points today. Serbia will be without best striker Nikola Zigic and playmaker Dejan Stankovic , but I believe they could compensate that because there are lot of good players in squad like striker Danko Lazovic from PSV or midfielder Bosko Jankovic who gives excellent performances in his new team Palermo.

Goalkeepers: Vladimir Stojkovic(Sporting Lisbon), Vlada Avramov(Fiorentina)

Defenders: Antonio Rukavina(Partizan Belgrade), Ivica Dragutinovic(FC Sevilla), Mladen Krstajic(Schalke 04), Dusko Tosic(Werder Bremen), Nemanja Vidic(Manchester United), Milan Stepanov(FC Porto)

Midfielders:
Nenad Kovacevic(RC Lens), Igor Duljaj(Shakhtar Donetsk), Milan Smiljanic(Espanyol), Ognjen Koroman(Red Star Belgrade), Bosko Jankovic(Palermo), Zdravko Kuzmanovic(Fiorentina), Milos Krasic(CSKA Moscow)

Forwards: Marko Pantelic(Hertha BSC), Milan Jovanovic(Standard Liege), Danko Lazovic(PSV Eindhoven).

I suppose it will be one tight game without lot of goals because both squads have excellent defenses. However, Serbia have better options in other parts of the field and much more motives to win, so I believe it will give the edge for Serbia.

My pick is Serbia AH 0 LOST ( 1.90 @ vcbet) and braver should try clear away win.

Justin Henin - Jelena Jankovic

August 19th 2007 11:57
Expected final at Rogers Cup this year. 1st on the WTA list Justin Henin will play against 3rd Jelena Jankovic, but in my opinion at the moment those are two best players in the world.

Henin comes to final without set dropped. She won over Andreja Klepac, Peng, Petrova and this year surprise Zi Yan. Se didn’t has any problems except against Petrova when Justin was close to lose first set. Although she have good results on the paper Henin is far from her best form and Jankovic could maybe take advantage of it. So far, Justin Henin won all six encounters but except the last one at Roland Garros she always dropped one set to Jelena Jankovic

Vitoria Guimaraes - Setubal

August 18th 2007 23:42

This is the the first round of Portuguesse league. Vitoria Guimaraes is a very strong team at home field every year and I think this season will be even harder for any visitors. Reason is always great support from the home fans but also reinforced team at the beginning of the new season. They have practically new team compared to last season when they competed in 2nd league , but it’s normal because they must have more quality for Portuguese Superliga. New players in squad are Radanovic, Andrezinho, Luciano, João Alves, Fajardo, Alan and Miljan and all should start from the beginning of the match.

James Blake - Sam Querrey

August 17th 2007 21:48
This will be great match in Cincinnati because both players are from the States. James Blake is much more experienced than 12 years younger Querrey and that certainly makes him favorite today *tonight*. Blake came into the tournament with an injury but it seems it doesn’t have great impact on his form. He plays in great style in Cincy this year and so far he lost just one game on his serve. In the last match he dismissed Ferrero pretty easy.

Bjorkman-Mirnyi Vs. Zimonjic-Djokovic

August 16th 2007 16:56
Yeah, Bjorkman and Mirnyi are big favorites to win this match. They were champions of this tournament and that is a fact for respect. They play together for a long time and perfectly good know each other. So from that point of view they have much much better chances to win this match. But I expect some trouble from Serbian double today.

Reading - Chelsea

August 15th 2007 16:55
Reading made biggest surprise last weekend taking one point against champions Manchester Utd. But on that match Kitson received red card so he will not be in squad today. Beside him, Lita is also out so Reading will be without real scoring power today. They will try to defend result from the beginning and I expect very defensive performances from them with possible counter attacks , off course if Chelsea players allow something like that.

Reading: (from) Hahnemann, Federici, Murty, de la Cruz, Ingimarsson, Duberry, Bikey, Shorey, Seol, Oster, Gunnarsson, Harper, Cisse, Fae, Hunt, Convey, Doyle, Long, Cox

N. Kiefer - J. Blake

August 15th 2007 16:06
After unsuccessful appearance in Montreal and lost against Djokovic , Kiefer started pretty good in Cincinnati beating Marat Safin in first match 2:0 in sets. He took first set without much problems but in second Safin showed his real face. However, that wasn’t enough for in form German and he finished that match in tiebreak. Improvement in Kiefer play is visible and it looks he enjoy playing at hard surface.

Tommy Haas - Mario Ancic

August 14th 2007 17:01
Ancic didn’t played much tournaments this season because had health problems. In 2007 he had only 10 matches with score 5:5. However, he took part in the last tournament in Montreal and won against Canadian player Niemeyer and lost against in shape Frenchman Mathieu. Earlier this season he played against Haas and lost that match 3:1 . Ancic is good player , maybe bit out of form but certainly he could make some trouble for Tommy Haas.

Nalbandian - Moya

19th ranked Carlos Moya comes to Cincinnati after title win in Umag in Croatia and he showed very good tennis there. But, he is a typical clay courter and I see lot of problems for him to adapt on hard surface. He took his chances in Montreal but he lost pretty easy against Cypriot Bagdathis

Roger Federer - Novak Djokovic

August 12th 2007 13:13
Federer - Djokovic

This is expected final for me. Those two players showed most during whole tournament and both didn’t lose a single set. Federer had most problems in the first round against giant player and server Ivo Karlovic winning after two tie-breaks. In the rest of the tournament he won over Fognini, Hewitt and in semis over Stepanek. The other side, Djokovic had very taugh oposition in Kiefer, Nalbandian , Roddick and Nadal but he finished all matches without lot of problems. Yesterday he overrun Nadal dominating all the time. H2H Federer leads 4:0 , but this season in Dubai , Novak took first set against tennis king Roger. From that time Djokovic improved greatly in all parts of the game. His serve is almost unbreakable with big percent of successfull first serve, backhand is great , foot work one of the best in whole ATP tour. Djokovic also improved his volley and play from the base line. Djokovic is not simply good he is outrageously good in Montreal and in my opinion he is very underestimated by bookies. About Federer I don’t want to write much because we all know how good he is

The Community Shield

August 5th 2007 11:40
Chelsea - Manchester Utd.

is one pre- season match which don’t have big result value in England , but with Chelsea and Manchester on different sides it means that will be small war today on Wembley. Also, it will be a match between two great strategists Mourinho and Ferguson and neither of them don’t want to lose this game
