Crvena Zvezda - Levadia

Crvena Zvezda is probably best team from Serbia. They’ve changed team compared to last season and there no Ailton , Georgiev, Djokic and Purovic in squad this season. But, they brought few good players , defender Bronowicki from Legia W, Lucas from Boavista , Mauricio Alejandro Molina, Argentinean Barcos and Salas from Ecuador. Those players have quality enough at least for this second round of qualifications. In pre season matches Zvezda didn’t have particularly good results , but there was lot players in rotation on those matches and main point was to choose best players for season matches. Zvezda have great tradition in Europe and in last years they were always in third round of qualifications so I can’t see any reason why this season should be anything different.

Probable starting 11> Ivan Randjelovic, Dusan Basta, Đordje Tutoric, Ibrahim Gueye, Dusan Andjelkovic, Segundo Castillo, Dejan Milovanovic, Joao Nuno Lucas, Nenad Milijas, Ognjen Koroman and Hernan Barcos.

Levadia eliminated Macedonian Pobeda in first round , but they didn’t impress. They had strong defensive line then, but Pobeda is very weak team and it questionable how good Levadia really is. Estonian league is also very weak and from that point of view they shouldn’t make much problems to Serbian Champion. One detail could make problems for both teams and that is Marakana’s pitch. Conditions are terrible, but Zvezda will have addition in full stadium and support from the fans who expect this match with big attention. Full squad and great support from the fans should be enough to break mediocrity Levadia. Home win is a banker , while my pick is Zvezda with AHC -1.75 ( 2.01 @ 10bet)

Nishikori – Tursunov

Nishikori (17) is the youngest quarterfinalist at the Indianapolis since Becker in 1985. He played good on this tournament beating easily A.Falla in two sets and in last round recently in form M. Berrer in three. He showed good tennis and evidently he has great motivation to make best possible result in one of the first ATP tournaments for him. He will play without pressure because he is underdog here and that could be a slight advantage for him. Also, like most Japanese players he play excellent on hard surfaces while Tursunov is much better on grass. Tursunov won in first round against Russel and in second had problems with Gabashvili , wining 2:1 in sets , but losing second 0:6. Lately it’s typical for Tursunov to have drop downs in form during matches and that also could be a chance for youngster Japanese player. If Nishikori continue to play on high level like in first two rounds I believe he will be able to take at least one set against Tursunov. With bit of luck he could even win but it could be taken with small stakes only. My pick is Nishikori with sets HC 1.5. (2.5 @ interwetten)

Troicki – Pavel

It will be very interesting match because those two players trained together and they knows good each other. Troicki came to semi-final thru qualifications and then in first round made major surprise beating compatriot and first seed Djokovic. In last easily took C.Berlocq in two sets. Troicki showed good performances in Umag and especially great services and play from the base line and that will be his advantage against Pavel. Pavel also made big surprise beating Croatian Ljubicic in first round . Then eliminated Haase and in last round Volandri in three sets. Pavel is much older players and has more experience than Troicki who mainly play on challengers and that will be his advantage today. In my opinion both players have the same chances to reach the final , but I will go for the younger one here and I will support Viktor Troicki with medium stakes.

FC Pyunik - Derry City

First leg match one week ago finished with goalless draw 0:0. Derry City was better team most of the time and practically they didn’t allow a single goal chance for FC Pyunik. Derry dominated especially in the second half of the match and only luck saved FC Pyunik from defeat.

In the mean time Derry had one match in domestic league with Bohemians and that match also finished 0:0. Derry’s players comes to Yerevan with full confidence because they overplayed opponents in the first match. They will be reinforced with great centre-half Darren Kelly who should make defense impenetrable for Pyunik attacks. Derry’s coach will have almost best squad to choose for this important game as only doubt is Gary Beckett.

Probable: Jennings, McCallion, Kelly, Oman, Hutton, McGlynn , Molloy, Martyn, McCourt, Farren , Morrow .

Armenian side is not team with great tradition as they are only 16 years old. They could be considered as slight favorites because they have good result from the first match, but they showed less than Derry and in my opinion they have lack of quality compared to Irish team. However, I expect strong defensive performances from FC Pyunik and probably low scoring match.

In my opinion both teams have same chance to advance in second round and to take a part in match against Donetsk. Derry City is certainly team with better players potential but they could have certain problems with extremely hot temperatures in Armenia. However, I believe they are good enough to stay unbeaten in Yerevan. My pick is Derry City AHC 0.5 ( 1.89 @ Pinnacle)

BATE Borisov - Apoel N.

Apoel deservedly won first match in Nicosia 2:0. Cypriots showed much more aggression in that match and had big help from Belarus players who made numerous mistakes in game. Now, Apoel have nice advantage before match in Belarus.

BATE is in the middle of the domestic league and that could be slight advantage compared to Apoel. They have good results in Belarus and in last match they’ve won against Dnepr 2:0. Of course this match is something different , but I believe there are no big difference in quality between Cypriot and Belarus league. BATE will be without veteran Anton Sakharov but he will probably be replaced with Hagush who didn’t play in the first leg because of visa problems.

On the other side, Apoel didn’t start domestic championship , but they had few friendly games in front of match with BATE. They didn’t have much success beating only Romanian Steaua 2:1. Apoel have good players in squad and also they are reinforced with few solid signings like Emerson or Ze Carlos. Of course , they have much better chances to take a part in third qualification round , but I think BATE will not surrender without a fight.

If BATE can rise level of aggression on the field and if they can reduce mistakes from the first match I believe they have good chances to at least stay unbeaten at home. With some luck on their side they could even win , and my pick will be BATE with Asian handicap 0.25 ( 2.09 @ Pinnacle)

Serbia U19 – USA U19

Those are two best teams in whole Championship and they both deserve to play in Final. They’ve already played In the third round of the group stage and USA won that match 82:78. Serbia was better in 1st and 4th quarter , but that wasn’t enough for victory. Main problem for Serbian players was very low percent of free throws and if they can change that in the Final they will be very close to the title.

In the semifinals USA eliminated France , but France was dominating team almost whole match. USA won after great last two minutes of the match and excellent performances of Dion Thompson who scored decisive points for USA and inverted France 8 pts advantage to the final 78:75 for USA. He scored 18 pts and had 13 rebounds.

In second semifinal Serbia didn’t have much problems with Brasil. They had an early lead 11:0 and till the end of the match Serbia completely controlled match for the final 89:74. Best player was Jeremić with 21 pts and 7 rebounds.

If Serbian players plays good defense without much “running” with USA players they will have better chances to win the title. Also, championship takes place in Novi Sad in Serbia , so Serbian players will have great support from about 8.000 spectators. My pick is Serbia to win ( extra time included) with great odds around 2.75 @ bet-at-home.

Serbia won 74:69
